To BYOD, or really how to BYOD, that is the question...

To BYOD, or really how to BYOD, that is the question...

BYOD refers to Bring Your Own Device. BYOD programs are growing across the nation and Rockland Public Schools has been contemplating how to start one. There are many questions to consider before implementing a BYOD program including:

  • What curricular objectives are supported and/or enhanced by BYOD?
  • What are the classroom management considerations?
  • How will we educate students and families on digital citizenship and acceptable use?
  • How many students could and would participate in a BYOD program?
  • What school devices are available to supplement BYOD?
  • Is the school infrastructure (wifi, charging stations, etc.) ready?

What are your thoughts and feedback on this important issue?

Introducing the New RPS Tech Blog...

Welcome to the new Rockland Public Schools Technology Blog...

We are going to use this space to discuss district technology initiatives and ideas as a supplement to our monthly technology committee meetings. With everyone's busy schedules, it is difficult to attend those meetings so this will be an opportunity for everyone's voice to be heard.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 2:50 pm at Rogers Middle School in the lecture hall located near the library. Discussion topics will include the following:

  • BYOD (Bring Your Own Device to school)
  • technology training ideas
  • update on technology and distribution

Any other topics brought up in this forum will be added to the agenda.

This forum is for the introduction and discussion of new ideas and initiatives. Any trouble tickets or computer problems should still be sent to Tim Wells (twells@rocklandschools.org) and (Kris Howe) khowe@rocklandschools.org.
